Looking to start a health coaching business, nutrition coaching business, or wellness coaching business from home and grow in your niche?
Good news: More and more people are turning towards alternative ways of restoring their health, which means the need for health coaches has increased.
Bad news: Competition has also increased, especially as a lot of people in the health coaching niche have shifted online.
This means that the wellness coaching niche is now more crowded, and without a solid marketing plan, it’s hard to stand out and rise above all the noise.
So, if you’re at a point in your life where you know now is your time to start a health coaching business from home and attract more paying clients online, you’ll want to read this article.
I’ve been a certified health coach for over 10 years, and together with my husband, we’ve helped thousands of people achieve optimal health. After struggling with our nutrition coaching business for five years, we turned everything around. Using our health coaching program, we grew our business to $10K-$20K months online.
What’s more, we achieved this while travelling the world—I’ve personally visited 40 countries!—and running our business from different locations, such as Bali, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, France, and more.
I wanted to write this article as a business coach for health coaches who want to learn how to start a health coaching business from home. Today, you’ll discover how to start your online wellness practice, choose a health coaching niche, design your health coaching program, and… make money online to build the life you want to live!
Let’s dive into it…
How much do health coaches earn?
First, let’s address that very important and valid question: how much can you make as a health coach? What’s a “normal” health coach salary, a.k.a. how much do health coaches earn?
Well, there isn’t such a thing as a “normal” health coach salary. I’ve been a business coach for health coaches for several years, and my answer is: you decide how much you earn. Statistically, most health coaches make $30,000-$40,000 annually on average.
But do you want to be an average health coach? Then, there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t start a health coaching business from home and grow it to six figures or more a year. I did it myself and have helped my clients do it, too.
For example, one of my clients, health coach Karolina, generated $45,000 in 90 days after applying my Six Figure Coach strategies.
Another client of mine, hormone coach Katie, went from zero to $9,500 in revenue within just two months!
How to start a health coaching business from Home
Don’t start your health coaching business by creating a website and posting pictures or videos on social media! This is one of the worst ways to grow your coaching business online.
What you must have in place is a strategy. A strategy will help you achieve bigger, long-term goals for your business.
Interested in discovering the strategy that takes health coaches to $5K-$20K+ months? Register for my free online case study and learn the three steps other wellness coaches use to grow their coaching businesses online.
- Your Niche and Message Strategy: This means having clarity about who you want to serve, what their key problems are, and how you can communicate with them to help them discover your health coaching program.
- Your Coaching Offer: Your coaching program should address a specific problem for your clients and offer them a transformational opportunity.
- Your Marketing Strategy: This is your plan to attract and enroll clients.
So, your niche and message are how you connect with your audience, your program is how you serve your audience, and your marketing plan is how you attract people into your paid health coaching program.
Let’s dive in deeper.
How to pick the right health coaching niche
Do you feel the desire to help people and build a successful health coaching business but find yourself missing one crucial element—a clear niche? Defining your niche is essential when learning how to start a health coaching business from home.
You can’t build a thriving coaching business without clearly identifying who you’re speaking to. In fact, marketing is 70% about who you talk to. Can you imagine that 70% of your success or failure in marketing comes from understanding your audience?
Knowing your target audience—their problems and needs—is the first step in successfully starting a health coaching business from home. When your niche is unclear, you risk becoming just another generalist health coach. This means you may end up focusing on a wide range of issues: weight loss, blood sugar problems, anxiety, gut issues, brain health, skin problems, and every other health concern under the sun.
However, when your message is too broad, it loses its impact. You become a generalist rather than a specialist. This makes it challenging to start a health coaching business from home and grow online. You will struggle to find clients, especially those willing to pay premium rates for your services.
To avoid this, you need to choose a specific health coaching niche. Let’s say, for example, your niche is weight loss. While this sounds specific, it’s still quite broad. Are you going to help men or women? Women in their 20s or those going through menopause? Are you focusing on people who are obese or those looking to lose their last 10 stubborn pounds? Are your clients aiming to build muscle or simply tone up and be healthy?
These are the details you need to specify to create a compelling message that attracts high-paying clients. By becoming a specialist, you position yourself to charge higher prices for solving specific, urgent problems. The more significant the problem you solve, the more lucrative your business can become.
For example, one of my clients, Beata, signed up 16 new clients in just 90 days after gaining clarity on her niche and marketing strategy.
Here’s an actionable step for you: Write your niche statement by filling in the blanks: “I help _____ (people you help) overcome their ______ (specific problems) so that they can ___, ___, and ___ (achieve three main outcomes they desire).”
For example: “I help driven moms overcome their hormonal and weight issues so that they can gain boundless energy, restore their hormones, lose 10-50 lbs of extra weight, and be fully present for those they love.”
- Who do you help? Moms!
- What do you help them do? Balance hormones and manage weight.
- What will they achieve as a result? Boundless energy, balanced hormones, and a healthy weight.
Bottom Line: If you’re figuring out how to start a health coaching business from home and attract high-paying clients, begin by solving significant problems and selecting a clear, focused niche!
How to build your signature, high-ticket health coaching program
If you’re wondering how to start a health coaching business from home, the key is to have a clear, well-designed signature health coaching program. Your business doesn’t truly exist until you have something valuable to offer, and this program forms the foundation for your coaching business. If you’re just starting out with your health coaching business online, creating a strong and unique program is essential.
When developing your nutrition coaching business, focus on one primary coaching offer that will become your signature program. Yes, that’s right—not 5 or 10 different offers, but just one main offer that stands out. As a health coach, nutrition coach, fitness coach, or transformational coach, you have the power to change and transform people’s lives. Your skills and knowledge help people achieve significant and priceless outcomes.
There’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be making money online with your coaching business. When we introduced a signature health coaching program in our business, we went from struggling to earning $120,000 a year in just 12 months. One of my clients even celebrated her first-ever $ 10,000-week thanks to the health coaching program that I helped her build and launch.
How to structure your health coaching program
To succeed in your journey on how to start a health coaching business from home, you need a well-structured health coaching program. Your program should be an A-to-Z process that guides your clients to achieve their desired outcomes.
Think of it as a 2-3 month plan where clients achieve specific results by following weekly milestones. You already have the knowledge; now, it’s about packaging it in the right way to create a successful program.
How to price your health coaching program
I’ve sold over $750,000 worth of online coaching programs. If you want to start a health coaching business from home and make money with it, you need to price your program correctly. Your pricing shouldn’t depend on the number of training modules, worksheets, or coaching hours, nor should it be based on what other coaches charge. Instead, start by asking yourself: How much do you want to earn as a health or wellness coach? What are your income and lifestyle goals?
Then, determine how many clients you’ll need to reach those goals. For example, if you want to run a $100,000, six-figure health coaching business, you should aim to generate around $9,000 per month. Charging $100 per session would require 90 clients to reach that target, which isn’t sustainable. A better strategy is charging $2,000-$4,000+ per package for a 2-3 month program. This way, with just 3-4 clients a month, you’re already running a six-figure coaching business.
By focusing your marketing efforts on attracting high-paying clients, you maximize the value of each client. Inside my 90-day coaching program for wellness coaches, The Coaching Breakthrough Academy, I’ve helped nearly 100 health and wellness professionals build their signature coaching programs and start attracting high-paying clients, even if they were total beginners.
For example, my client, IIN graduate health coach Lupita, went from zero to generating $7,500 in profit within just a few weeks of launching her program.
The Truth About High-Ticket Coaching Programs
People crave deep support, guidance, and a comprehensive blueprint that a high-end package provides. If you charge around $2K-$4K per package, you only need 3-4 clients each month to reach a six-figure income. Finding 3-4 clients is far easier than finding 50! You can offer additional options, but your primary focus should be on your premium package—your high-ticket health coaching program.
When we introduced this high-ticket program, our income soared from $45,000 to $120,000 in just 12 months. Surprisingly, we gained more clients, not fewer, and also gained more income and freedom as we created a team and provided jobs to others.
High-Ticket Coaching Program
Charging high-ticket prices is beneficial for your clients! When clients invest more significantly in their health or fitness transformation, they are far more committed. With a small, insignificant investment—like a $19 meal plan—there’s usually very little commitment. They might follow it or they might not; it doesn’t seem like a big deal. But when they pay a higher fee, things change. They show up differently, value you as a coach, and value themselves. Those who pay more, pay more attention. It’s a win-win for both you and your clients.
How to Start a Health Coaching Business from Home and Get Paid Coaching Clients
If you want to grow your health coaching business and develop a health coaching program that attracts paid clients, there are specific steps you need to focus on. Starting a health coaching business from home is an excellent opportunity to establish your online health coaching niche, make a big impact, and generate income.
However, if you’re a beginner looking to learn how to start a health coaching business from home and grow it to $5K or $10K months, it can be confusing to know where to find clients. There are countless ways to start a health coaching business, but unfortunately, most health coaching tips you’ll find suggest a very long and complicated path.
For example, you might hear that you need:
- A fancy website
- To offer one-on-one sessions
- To be on every social media platform
- To do frequent course launches
The truth is, you don’t need any of these. Simply doing more social media posting or blogging does not automatically result in more income or coaching clients if you lack the right high-ticket coaching strategy and high-paying skills.
Your first and most important step—the one that will pay you back over and over again—is investing in developing high-paying skills. For instance, if you only post tips, tricks, and recipes, it’s unlikely you’ll attract high-paying clients. But if you invest in high-paying skills and create a robust social media content marketing plan, whether through Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok, you’ll see a significant difference.
We built a YouTube channel with over 11 million views for our health coaching business and attracted countless high-paying clients not just from YouTube, but also from other social media platforms.
Build Authority and Connect with Your Audience
Make sure you know how to build your authority and are clear on your health coaching niche so you can design a magnetic message for your audience. Once you create that connection and establish your authority, provide value to your audience; those who need your help will naturally want to schedule a discovery call with you.
During that call, talk to potential clients about their problems and goals, and present your program as a solution to help them overcome those challenges. If your foundation is solid and your marketing message is sharp and well-structured, you’ll find people eager to join your program.
Essentially, high-ticket coaching clients are everywhere, and you can reach them through organic social media efforts, paid ads, and online live events. Remember, knowing how to start a health coaching business from home means focusing on the right strategies to attract and retain clients, without getting lost in unnecessary complexities.
Making Income with Your Health or Fitness Coaching Business
If you’re learning how to start a health coaching business from home, you need a solid strategy. Begin by choosing 1-2 social media platforms where you consistently post content, build your brand, connect with your audience, and attract paying clients.
Beyond content creation, mastering high-ticket sales skills is crucial to bringing in paid clients. I call this the “OTC framework,” which I use to help health coaches generate $5,000, $10,000, and more online.
- ‘O’ stands for Offer: We’ve already covered this in detail above.
- ‘T’ stands for Traffic: Choose 1-2 social media platforms to start with, post content that attracts clients, and optionally, run paid ads to reach a larger audience.
- ‘C’ stands for Conversion: This involves crafting a message that resonates with the right niche, addressing their problems, dreams, and desires to book more qualified calls on your calendar.
For example, you might choose Facebook and Instagram to post content and run paid ads. You could also build a Facebook group as a conversion mechanism, bringing people into it, nurturing them, and booking calls from your group. Or, you could build a YouTube channel and post content specifically targeted at your ideal clients, encouraging them to take action. By optimizing your YouTube channel for growth and directing traffic to a webinar, you can start growing your audience, building your funnel, and booking calls from it.
We’ve used this framework ourselves to make hundreds of thousands of dollars. When you have high-paying skills (mindset, marketing, sales) and know how to sell your offer and enrol clients, you’re already on your way. If you can book just 10-15 calls a month, you could be hitting $5,000-$15,000 months.
Take, for example, one of my clients, dating coach Connell. He wanted to improve his sales skills, and after applying my Call-To-Enroll framework, he generated $47,000 in just 30 days!
